To argue responsibly, you have to be willing to listen to the other persons response so you can hear their side of the argument. Shutting down other peoples ideas just makes you sound close-minded and ignorant. Someone who is willing to hear others opinions are able to gain more knowledge on the topic that they did not know before. It is also important to admit when you are wrong and when you have nothing else to say because sometimes others will drag the argument to be something personal and completely steer away from the topic at hand. It is also important to note that sometimes it's better to agree to disagree- you can't always change others minds on certain topics, you can only try your hardest to share your thoughts on it so other people can understand where you are coming from.
I really liked the flash points you chose! I also had a similar take away and picked up on some of the same things you did. I think your piece was well written and concise. It was easy to know exactly what you meant. I really enjoyed your piece, well done!
ReplyDeleteI love the flashpoints you included in this post. I also like how you mentioned to agree to disagree. That is something you really have to consider to do in life.
