reflection on unit 2

This assignment really gave me a lot of insight on how the world used to be and what it is turning into. Learning about Jane Elliot’s experiment was so special because someone had the guts to step up to the plate and strive for change- not many people seem to do that. My favorite thing about it all was that she took the time to learn how black people were treated in their day to day life and was able to portray a portion of that to white students so they could understand. This helped me understand a little better what other races have to go through on a daily basis even today and moving forward I can teach others the information I learned from this assignment to change others perspective.

It was really nice and interesting to look at the assignments from this unit in a new light. We are taught from a young age to try to find the “deeper meaning” behind whatever we are digging into, but simply writing what we saw in a picture or video was a nice change. We were able to focus on what was right in front of us instead of overthinking it.

At the beginning of the semester/ this unit, I was honestly really confused on what the tasks were because I have never simply written what I was looking at since elementary school, but after reading the directions and asking a lot of questions, I finally started to understand. The assignment that was the biggest turning point for me was our artifact. The picture I chose was a mother breastfeeding on a construction site and it was so much easier to state what I was looking at instead of trying to figure out details that were uncertain.

Using analysis in the ways I learned from this unit has been really helpful because though we eventually have to go deeper into what we’re looking at or watching, it is so much easier to simply state what we’re seeing first, then going into more detail. I learned a lot from this unit and will definitely use the things I learned from this unit to help others with their papers, or even to look over my future assignments.
